About The artist
Kate Beck New Orleans is all about one of a kind-slow fashion. She uses the surface design processes of shibori dyeing, felting and printmaking on natural fibers to create pieces that are beautiful and individual. From the fabrics she embellishes and then fabricates into her original contemporary fashion statements-all pieces are exotic and wearable.
Inspired by nature, history and humanity, Kate’s collections continually evolve and expand. Influenced by the beauty of her early years in the Pacific Northwest , hiking, exploring rich terrains, collecting rocks, feathers, sand dollars -she developed a deep connection with the natural world and it’s mysteries. It was here that her love of textiles, sewing and printmaking developed. After studying fiber arts and printmaking in Seattle in the1980s, she has developed her craft and traveled nationally and internationally to art shows eventually landing Kate In New Orleans. You can find her in her French Quarter shop, Alquimie, or at her studio in the Faubourg Marigny where she lives and works out of her historic four story Creole townhouse and of course out on the road!
